Day 31: Kalaw

We were able to check in at 3am after taking the fanciest tuk tuk we have been in yet. The hotel is like a big villa and our room was beautiful! Not bad for $45 total per nightu – our most expensive yet! Kalaw is in the mountains and for the first time in months it wasn’t too hot. We settled into bed and awoke around 9am in the morning for breakfast which consisted of fresh home baked bread, eggs, fruit, banana bread and tea/coffee. We probably would have slept in later if we didn’t have to get up by 10 for breakfast!

After breakfast we wandered into town to book our trek. We went to the highest rated tour guide on trip advisor and met a dude called Ko Min. He was pretty hilarious and convinced us to do the one night trek instead of two because of the heat at this time of the year and the heavy smoke from numerous fires. After leaving we wandered around for awhile and ended up in a local pub drinking handles of Myanmar Beer ($0.90)and playing 500 while the locals peered over our shoulders wondering what the heck the game was. They were very intrigued and friendly.

Brierley was hungry (surprise surprise) so we headed straight for an early dinner at Simple Life which served mostly western food. It was up a hill and a bit of a mission to walk there. We ordered two smoothies, pizza and vegetable pesto pasta. It was pretty expensive (about $20 total) but we were extremely full by the end and it was all very tasty.  We walked back to the hotel.

Home, shower, sleep.
