Kyle’s birthday!
Unfortunately for him we were both rekt.
We dragged ourselves out of bed at 8.30 to get breakfast, again provided by the hotel. It was probably the best yet, with plenty of options including fruit, eggs, rice, a vege pork curry and a water cress salad (which was super yum).
Straight after brekky we were back to sleep until lunchtime….
After a fierce struggle to get up for a second time, as both of us were still very tired and Kyle had managed to score birthday stomach aches, we went for a walk into the town Nyaung-Shwe (around 45mim walk from the hotel). We parked up at Date coffee shop for a ginger tea, mango smoothie, slice of cheesecake, brownie and fries, accompanied by some 500. While we were there we saw our first downpour of Myanmar rain and were grateful for our timing.
From there we ventured down to the Irrawaddy river. The river is very wide and again was full of people using it for laundry and bathing.
This was followed by a foot massage, which ended up also including hands, arms, head, neck, back and shoulders briefly at the end. The massage was ok, pretty repetitive but relaxing all the same.
Then it was dinner time at Bibo. Whole moley, what a feast we had the guacamole with lentil chips, kidney beans burger, braised beef curry, masala chai and pot of ginger, lime, honey tea. Everything was stunning and tasted moreish, the curry was the best we’ve had on our travels so far. All for only 16,800 kyat ($16.80).
On the way back to the hotel we picked up a couple of beers to have on the rooftop. Not only did they go down a treat, but they were also both winners of the Myanmar beer promotion going on, one free beer and 1,000 kyats!
Eventually we parked up to watch Kyle’s favourite documentary at the moment, ”The disappearance of Madeline McCann”. PS we reckon they’re innocent.
