Upon arriving in Nha Trang at 4.30 am we were straight into the hunt for a 24 hour cafe as we couldn’t check in at our hotel until 10.30 am. After walking in circles for 15 minutes or so we eventually found a spot close to the beach. We stayed here for two hours, drinking green tea and eating Pho, before heading to the beach.
We parked up on the beach at around 7.30 am and it was already packed, with a lot of people in the water. Lucky for us we found a relatively quiet area to dump our gear on the soft golden sand. We swam and read and napped until close to our check in time when we jumped in a Grab to head to Dhome hotel. The hotel was really good, the room was spacious with a smart TV and a huge water container for us to refill our bottles.
For lunch we had a sushi boat and some pork curry noodles. The food was really good, but the mango smoothies were interesting as they contained many small pieces of plastic…
The afternoon was spent catching up on sleep and Modern Family. Before dinner we walked down to the beach close to the hotel. It had a lot more rubbish than the other beach and there were lots of rocks in the water.
For dinner we parked up at a local spot for mushroom noodles, garlic fried morning glory and fried tofu which were all great. On the way home we picked up a mango for dessert and ate this on the rooftop at the hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel consisted of fried eggs, toast and bananas, with a glass of sweet milk and sweet iced green tea. Service was fast and it was good to not have the opportunity to overeat.
After brekky we headed back into town to the main beach, about a 4km walk from the hotel. On the way we checked out the mall and went beach towel shopping. In the mall the towels were $40 each, what a scam! Luckily just down the road we found a small shop where they were $10… Still overpriced but a lot more reasonable
For lunch we had a small pork sandwich kebab thing, some pineapple and a mango. My stomach was feeling dodgy so I left most of the eating to Kyle.
We managed to find some shade on the beach which made for a comfortable and relaxing afternoon. The beach was relatively empty where we sat down, but at 4 pm-ish it completely packed out with locals.
We walked back to the hotel, which was much more pleasant late in the day, to wash up before dinner. For dinner we went back down the road to another local spot called ZoZo. Typically, we ordered garlic fried morning glory, tofu and sweet and sour beef. It was all delicious, and cost only $10 including two beers. The beers were warm so they gave us a glass each with a huge bucket of ice which was interesting.
Annnnnd then it happened…. Sick day! I woke up feeling like rubbish, yay. So that made for a day in bed for me, with lots of napping and TV. Kyle went out at lunch time for a walk and a feed, also to get a haircut but they were too busy.
By dinner I thought it was about time I left the room, so we went back down the road to the same restaurant we went to on our first night in Nha Trang. We ordered the morning glory, beef and mushrooms and egg fried rice, but as it arrived at the table and I reached the bottom of my 7up, my vision started blurring and I ended up lying across the chairs to stop myself passing out. Awkward. Kyle was a legend and got all the food into takeaway containers so we could head back to the hotel. It was a slow walk for a short distance as I had to stop and sit three or four times to stop spinning out, but we made it back eventually. I was straight into bed while Kyle headed to the rooftop to eat. Eventually I felt up to some food and ate the leftovers sitting on the edge of the bed. Not a pleasant setting but it was good to get something down!
The next day we left the hotel at 10.30 am to catch the bus to DaLat.
