Day 39: Bagan – Mandalay, Myanmar

Today we leave Bagan with heavy hearts. It is such an incredible place, we don’t feel ready to leave!

Following breakfast at the hotel of fried vegetable noodles, vegetable curry and the usual, the hotel shuttle drove us to the bus stop. Originally they were going to charge us 7,000 kyat for a tuk tuk but after Kyle’s bartering they offered the hotels shuttle for free. We felt bad so tipped them 5,000 kyat anyway.

The bus to Mandalay took about 4 hours but it was pretty empty and comfortable so we both managed to have a nap. When we arrived in Mandalay we shared a grab with two others to our hotel. ($4).

Hotel Aurora was really nice our room was small but had a private bathroom and air con, what more could you want! We decided to go for a wander around the hotel, we didn’t get far because we were so overwhelmed by the amount of people. This place is crazy busy!

After returning to the hotel Brierley watched some modern family for the first time and loved it. We looked up some good food spots and ended up at one called Pan Cherry Noodle house. Brierley has tofu noodle soup and I had pickled mustard chicken with rice and we both had mango smoothies. All up it cost us $7. Absolute bargain. Brierley was feeling unwell so we headed back to the hotel and had our free nightly happy hour cocktail which was fruit juice and Mandalay rum.
