Today had a slow start after all the beers consumed the previous day at the water festival and Kyle’s 1am wake up to watch the sixers game. Following breakfast at 7.30 am we were straight back to bed to nap and watch the UFC 236 fight. Kyle’s hard work searching for a stream paid off.
Following the fight it was time to catch a Grab to the airport. We allowed heaaaaaaps of time to get there because of all the blocked streets and heavy traffic for the water festival.
Upon arrival at the airport we were disappointed to find that we couldn’t pass through to the check in counter for another 3 hours! So we parked up in a cafe to have a cup of green tea, Coke zero and tea leaf salad while playing a few hands of 500.
After another failed attempt to get to the check in area, we moved to a different cafe for fries, ice cream and more 500.
Eventually we made it through to the check in counters and through security which took all of 5 minutes as the airport was empty. At this point we were stoked to find out that Bangkok Airways had a lounge which we were free to use. The lounge had an all you can eat buffet of fruit, cheese sandwiches and popcorn, as well as including the standard drinks spread. It was nice to have somewhere quiet and comfortable to park up and enjoy free snacks.
The flight was epic! We were only on turboprop, but were very happy to find that drinks and a meal were included our ticket. The meal was a spinach (tuna for Kyle) pie with fruit. We washed it down with a Chang each of course. The service was very good, we recommend Bangkok Airways!
After arriving in Chiang Mai an hour early, we caught a Grab to our hostel. We had a nervous 10 minutes or so waiting outside as we arrived 1.5 hours earlier than expected and didn’t know when someone would turn up to let us in. Lucky it didn’t take too long, and by 8.30pm we were checked in and out searching for some dinner.
We walked to the old City and had a quick look around but were disappointed to not find any street food noodles. As a result, we ended up at a Chinese restaurant not far from our hostel. I had the fried broccoli and pork in oyster sauce with rice, while Kyle had the stir fried pork noodles. Both meals were really tasty and together came to only 115 baht ($6).
